Leave a note at the survey camp

Tell us about the reach you are worried about, and we will send back a short scope. The office is on Leckie Ave in Stoney Creek, and the field gear goes out most mornings before the creek rises.

Audit walks are scheduled for dry mornings so the bank faces can be read without rain washing the record.

Before you write

If you can, note the creek name, the nearest road crossing and whether the bank is privately or publicly owned. Those three details let us place your reach on the map before we reply.

Three questions we hear most

A single reach usually takes four to six weeks from the first walk to the delivered plan. The field work itself is only four to eight days, but the drawing and the build order need time to be checked against the audit sheets. If a funder has set a hard deadline we will say at the first meeting whether the date is realistic, and we will not promise a plan we cannot finish well.

Yes. Small groups are often the best stewards of a reach because they notice change between our visits. For a volunteer group we scale the forms and the monitoring schedule to the hands available, and we train two people to read the staff gauge so the record continues between our monitoring weeks. The same open file format is used whether the client is a conservation authority or a neighbourhood group.

In most cases we can map an outlet from the public bank and the road allowance. Where a pipe is hidden on private ground we first ask the owner for permission, and we record that consent in the file. If access is refused we note the outlet as unmapped rather than guessing, because a map that invents a connection is worse than a map with a gap. Gaps are honest, and they point to where the next conversation should happen.
